Setting macros

Okay. So I did some research on where my macros should be at. Due to the fact that I am not a runner or super-athlete, my carbs do not need to be high. So, as of today I'm going to AIM FOR 50%F/30%P/20%C.

I decided to leave it at that for now. I'm not going to count calories, and even though I saw some others suggesting it, I am NOT going to make sure I'm in ketosis or use Ketostix, or anything like that. That brings back to Atkins memories. (shudder)

Getting discouraged...

I'm seriously bummed and need to vent.
My weight is not really moving. I know I shouldn't pay so much attention to the scale, but I can't seem to get below 135-ish or 136-ish. I haven't worked out in at least 2 weeks, due to me getting a bad cold right before Thanksgiving. My breathing was compromised and I wasn't going to make it worse. So here I sit, at same weight, very discouraged that even though I haven't touched grains or dairy ( or much of it ) things stay about the same.

So. I guess I need to put more thought into this than I thought I would have to, and do some research on macronutrients. Am I getting too much protein?? Eating to many nuts?? I think I will go back onto Myfitnesspal for now and count calories, or at least log what I'm eating. So I am just bummed today. I'm going to do a little research and see where my numbers should be at for weight loss.

Is it Friday afternoon yet??

Food, food, food.

I think I'm addicted to almonds. Seriously, if they are in front of me I will just keep eating them. Now, almonds are fine for Paleo...but I've read more than once that if weight loss is a goal you need to keep the nuts to a minimum. Or at least don't go too crazy. Because while they are Paleo, they are also high in fat and calories. So I need to keep the almond habit in check.

I had no time on Sunday to do any cooking/food prep. So somehow, after a long day at work and even with me coughing STILL, I managed to cook a few things last night. Made tasty salmon cakes, roasted cauliflower, tuna steaks with veggies, and have the London broil marinating for tonight. Have a few more things I'm going to try to cook up tonight too, if my energy permits. Seriously, do you know how hard it is to get psyched up about cooking when it's pitch black outside??

137.1

I am SO bummed out. I have been sick for about five days, ruining pretty much half of my nice, long Thanksgiving weekend. I ended up falling off the Paleo wagon a bit and didn't get to do ANY of the workouts I had planned. So here it is Monday and back at work, and my congestion is still lingering and there's no way I can work out since pretty much just taking a shower prompts me to have to use my inhaler. I'm over coughing up shit, it's disgusting. I had a few "Eh, fuck it" moments and ate what I felt like, which included but was not limited to a few alcoholic beverages, a couple slices of sweet potato pie, a helping of stuffing on T-Day, a couple Hawaiian Sweet rolls, and a small bag of potato chips. Yeah, I know. So I fell off the wagon more than a bit. Whatever, it's a new week - a new month too...and even though I'm not 100% better I'm jumping back on. We did major grocery shopping and I have a bunch of new recipes to try, which I'm crossing my fingers that they work out. I'm still pissed I overcooked my spaghetti squash yesterday...so instead of Thai Coconut Spaghetti Squash noodles, I have Thai Coconut Spaghetti Squash....soup.

Meh...136.5

My weight is still on the higher side today. Not happy. Did my drinking Friday and Saturday night really screw me up that bad??? Or am I taking in too much fat/almond products? So mad and bummed at myself. Boy, I sure am impatient. I'm trying to keep a food journal, so I know exactly what I'm eating and how much protein, fat, and vegetables I'm consuming. Then I can evaluate from there. I have been eating quite a few almonds and almond flour products I guess...need to focus on more vegetables. I feel like I'm definitely getting a good share of protein.

On a side note, why does eating healthy have to be so expensive??? I went to Publix the other day and bought maybe 10-15 small things and spend almost $100.00. Every products I picked up that was natural or organic was so much more...especially the real maple syrup! It was like $8.00! I'm trying to buy better things for my daughter to eat as well...I don't feel right trying to clean up my eating while feeding my daughter crap. So, I decided to try some organic things she would actually eat...organic "Spaghetti-O" type noodles, organic yogurt, etc. After picking up a few things for her and the few things I needed for myself, I had spent a fortune! Imagine if I had filled the cart!

Damn alcohol.

Well, I think I did totally great food-wise this past weekend, then went and sabotaged myself by having way too much to drink on Saturday night. Enough to give me a effing mild hangover and miss my Sunday morning workout. UGH. So mad at myself. But I need to just get back on this wagon. On a plus side, I cooked up a bunch of Paleo foods for the week and I did get up at 5:25 to work out this morning...so at least I didn't totally and completely screw myself over.

I made these Paleo snickerdoodles, which I was very excited about. I needed to have something sweet to turn to when I get the urge. They are a little on the oily side though. Next batch will have less coconut oil. But, even though they fall apart, they taste great...good enough that even my picky ten-year old likes them!

Coconut Milk Creamer

Okay, so one of my Paleo mistakes was that I thought non-dairy powdered creamer was a good replacement for my go-to  Land O' Lakes Fat-Free half and half. It has no dairy, so it must be okay, right? (Derp.) Then I actually read the ingredients label and it turns out the non-dairy powdered stuff is mostly sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. Doh!!

So I Googled 'Paleo creamer' and came across a forum where  someone mentioned So Delicious Coconut Milk Creamer. Oooh. Headed to Whole Foods at lunch and grabbed the orignal flavor and vanilla. It's not bad! The vanilla is sweeter, so it doesn't require as much of my (Non-Paleo) Splenda. It's very low-cal, low-fat, and an all-around winner. Thank God for dairy substitutes!
